A Higher Power, Chapters 26-28 Summary

In Chapter 26, Gabe and Val wait at the Head of the Slug Saloon, where they find Catfish and meet Howard, one of Mavis's regulars at the Saloon and the owner of H.P.'s Café. Val orders a Bloody Mary and Catfish repeats his refusal to help with the sea beast. Mavis and Howard mention that they had caught a monster themselves. Meanwhile, Theo continues following the Sheriff until the Mercedes gets stuck in the mud. He follows on foot toward the rocks. He nearly slips down the hill when someone cocks a gun behind his head. Molly goes through the clothes of the people to find their money, credit cards, and bottles of anti-depressants. She has another psychotic conversation with herself, realizing that Steve is using her.
