Summary

Tauwhare goes to the newspaper office to see Benjamin Lowenthal. Lowenthal tells him about the séance that Lydia Wells is planning for that evening. She plans to commune with the spirit of Emery Staines. There is a party before the séance where all are invited, but one needs a special ticket for the séance. Tauwhare is not interested. He wants to advertise his services as a guide. Lowenthal tries to get Tauwhare to help with clearing the cargo from the rescued remains of Godspeed, but he will not. He also tells him that a barrister has been brought in to straighten out the Crosbie Wells affair. Fellowes is to make a report for a Supreme Court judge and this means there could be a murder trial.
