Chapter 2 Summary

Georgie walks down the street with a new sense of hope. Never before was he excited about his life. He is certain that after the drawing, his life will change. His mother wakens upon his return and tells Georgie she is too tired to cook him his lunch. Georgie makes himself a sandwich and decides not to return to school for the day. He walks to the park where he daydreams about his prize. He suddenly becomes worried. Whatever he wins, Steve will accuse him of stealing. Steve will destroy the prize or take it away from him. As Steve stays away from the apartment, Georgie gets less worried about his prize being taken away. Georgie stays at home with his mother, who complains that having Georgie ruined her life. She also thinks he needs to be a man and accept that people...
