Expectations of Society

Every social group has rules, including generally accepted practices and some that are unique to a culture. This novel is set in Pantala, a continent inhabited by dragons that have an advanced society, changed over time by the dragons and simply by the passage of time. In this overall society, the HiveWings are the upper class. A HiveWing queen rules over the HiveWings and the SilkWings. A third tribe, the LeafWings, are thought to be extinct after a war that ended 50 years earlier, but the LeafWings still exist and are seeking to change this society, as are some SilkWings who are tired of being treated so poorly.

As the novel opens, Blue and Luna are SilkWings on the day of Luna's Metamorphosis (when she will enter a cocoon to develop wings and silk glands). Luna wants to celebrate, and she enters an exclusive candy...
