Summary

Chapter 15 is titled “The Lady of Edom.” The group lands safely, despite the fact that Magnus is in some sort of trance during the final part of the fall. They arrive at the cathedral that is the mirror of Saint Ignatius in Shanghai. The major difference is that every “holy symbol, or saint, or angel” (252) is missing, meaning there are empty spaces where images, statues, and altars were. Magnus is still in a trance after they land and they cannot wake him. Shinyun arrives and says Magnus is struggling because he needs the third strike of the horn. There is a brief conversation about people who would actually choose to die. Shinyun talks about the struggle between power and sentiment.
