Summary

Chapter 28

As Ira’s health continues to decline, he thinks of what life was like after Ruth’s death. Ira falls into such a depression that he refuses to eat, hoping to die so that he can be reunited with his wife. However, one night Ira is looking at the letters he has written to Ruth each year on their anniversary since the year of the dark time and finds a letter Ruth wrote to him in anticipation of her death. This letter pulls Ira out of his depression and he begins to live again. It is about this time that Ira brings the paintings to the house.
