Summary

Chapter 17 begins with Anna feeling bored about life on the run. She’s afraid and misses Daniel’s call while she has her headphones on. She ends up at Jack’s college where she meets Deval before she goes to Virginia. Deval meets her in Virginia and tells her that he wants to go to Detroit to meet a gypsy guitarist, but will take her anywhere she wants to go. She agrees to go with him and they find a place to stay and he gets a job as a waiter. He meets Stanislaus, the guitarist, and remembers how Jack had a saying: “He has the music.” Meeting with Stanislaus motivates Deval as a musician. He plays quietly at night and both Anna and Chloe love the music. In the spring, Deval suggests moving to New York City to meet Arthur Morelli...
