Chapters 14 and 15 Summary

The next journal entry is dated October 20, 1795. Jessica writes that she wakes one night during the wagon train trip west to discover Edward bent over the bodies of Jacob and Emily. He had slashed their throats and demands to know where Jessica had hidden the jewels. She screams the alarm and the camp comes awake, forcing Edward to run. When the camp again settles down, Jessica picks up Christina and rides calmly out of camp. She says that she now knows she'll never be free of Edward.

Lyon leaves that afternoon and Christina believes he is going for the card game with Rhone. Actually, he is gone to arrange for "Jack" to make an appearance that night to clear Rhone's name. Christina is at home when Diana arrives, crying. She explains about Rhone's arrest and Christina tells her not to worry...
