Summary

In Chapter 5, when Frank and Sam dropped Cassie off at Whitethorn House, Daniel and the others were waiting at the top of the stairs. As Cassie walked toward them, she sensed tension. It was Daniel who broke the tension when he stepped forward to greet Cassie. When Cassie stepped into the house, she felt as if she had been there before. She had the dangerous feeling that she had just arrived at home. The rest of the evening was a blur for Cassie. She describes it as being like walking into a living version of a television show or novel.

There was a hesitation in the evening when Cassie reminded them she could not have alcohol because she was taking antibiotics. It was the first reference to her injury. It was Daniel who broke that silence, giving Cassie only a sip of wine...
