Summary

Futh wakes up, hungry at dawn. He thinks of skipping his final day of walking and going to Utrecht instead to visit with Carl's mother. Carl would be home in the evening and then he could take Carl to the ferry as promised. He decides that he will simply take a bus to Hellhous to retrieve his luggage, which he had delivered there in anticipation of the walking trip, and his car. He looks for timetables, and finds that there are three buses that go straight to Hellhaus, one in the morning, another in the afternoon, and a final one in the evening. He decides to take the one in the morning, but falls asleep, even after drinking too much caffeine on an empty stomach.
