Summary

During the chapter titled "Perfume," Ester greets Futh upon his arrival to Hellhaus. She is taken aback since he uses her first name to greet her. Ester is disgruntled that he is late, but wants to serve him the tray of cold cuts that she had prepared for him earlier. She chooses to enter his room and leave it inside. When she enters, she notices that he is in the shower. She also spots his open suitcase on the bed and chooses to look through its contents. She takes the silver lighthouse in her hands, noting a relief that says "Dralle" on one of its sides (43). She knows that it is a perfumery, although the scent is missing from the empty vial lighthouse shaped vial. She remembers that as a child, her mother worked for a toiletries company.
