Manhattan

Manhattan is where Gabe and Lucy meet, and it is where they live together and share their lives. Manhattan therefore represents their relationship and their love. When Darren suggests they move to Manhattan, Lucy tells him she does not want to; she sees Manhattan as her and Gabe’s borough. It is a sacred place full of memories, and when Lucy decides that she cannot face being reminded of Gabe at every turn, she decides to move to Brooklyn which represents neutral territory. Manhattan also represents mourning for all of those who lost their lives in the terror attack. Lucy still feels unable to visit Ground Zero because the pain is still raw, even after years have passed.
