Summary

In Chapter 1, the narrator, Lucy, talks about how she used to imagine that furniture items had witnessed history such as wars and discoveries. She then goes on to say how she can no longer remember the other classmates apart from Gabe and Mr Kramer. She recounts how Gabe was late and Mr Kramer told him to be early next time. The TA comes in late and tells Mr Kramer that a plane has hit one of the twin towers. No one yet understands the significance of this.
