Summary

In Chapter 26, Dita sees a prisoner in BIIc who looks at her through the fence. He motions to her to come closer to the fence. She obliges, and the boy runs into the hut to get something for her. However, as she waits, she feels the presence of a man behind her. She turns around to find Dr. Mengele staring at her - or so she thought. He gives brief acknowledgement to Dita and walks away. Dita realizes he was never watching her.

The next morning Lichtenstern gives notice that Block 31 must be evacuated by tomorrow. The prisoners are left worried and uncertain of their future.

Chapter 27 starts and workshops have already been closed down in Block 31. Prisoners are waiting for news on where they will be transported, but Adolf Eichmann has given a direct oder for Miriam Edelstein and...
