Mapleton

The story takes place in a Midwestern town called Mapleton. It is still devastated by the impact of the Sudden Departure day even though it has been three years since the event took place. Kevin Garvey is the Mayor of Mapleton and he has coordinated with other officials and citizens to organize a commemorative parade in honor of the departed. As Kevin rides down the parade route, he takes note of all the sad faces of people holding photos of their missing loved ones or wearing t-shirts with their images. The last float in the parade is decorated like an empty hearse.
