Summary

The reader is introduced to the as of yet unnamed man. He was awoken by a girl with “the eyes of a water nymph” (1) entering his chamber. At first he pretended to be asleep while she straddled him, naked. He gave up this pretense and they have sex.

The man, now described as “the stranger”, entered a tavern in Wyzim. He asked the innkeeper for a room for the night however was told that there was none. Some men observing the conversation and recognizing that the stranger was from Rivian approached him and told him to leave, stating, “We don’t need people like you in Wyzim. This is a decent town!” (2) When three men try to forcibly eject him from the tavern, the stranger kills them. He is taken by guards to the castellan of Wyzim, Velerad.
