In 2006, Randy felt a slight pain in his abdomen. After a series of tests, he discovered that he had pancreatic cancer. He approached the situation like a scientist, doing his research and interviewing experts. He wanted their most experimental treatments, assuring them that his goal was to remain alive. After treatments and surgery, he went on a trip with his wife.
