Summary

Chapter 29 shows Collins burning Avery's evidence. Collins admits he saw Parker speeding that night and chased after him until the accident happened. Collins says he was young and decided to remain quiet. He claims he has "given everything" to Littleport (325). He wants Avery to see that he has become a better person but only wears the facade of goodness. Avery realizes Collins killed Sadie because she traced the $100,000 payment to him. Collins says he killed her to protect the entire town from the wrath of the Lomans. Avery knows Collins had been terrified that she knew more than she said in their first interview.

Collins attacks Avery, but she runs to Sadie's room and tricks Collins into thinking she leaped off the balcony. Avery runs outside and to the bluffs, where she runs into Parker. Collins is right behind...
