Summary

Chapter One

The Last Apprentice: Revenge of the Witch (Book One) begins with Tom, the narrator discussing how his father needs to find Tom a job. Tom is the seventh son, so it’s a challenge for his father to find him anything because he’s used up all his other favors and connections for the rest of his family. An old man known as the Spook comes to recruit Tom. The Spooks are responsible for protecting the land from dangerous creatures. He agrees to take Tom at the first light of the following day. Tom has one last dinner with his family, where his brother teases him for his new occupation. Spooks are feared throughout the rest of the village, so Tom is worried he’ll live a lonely life.
