John Rain

John Rain is a self-proclaimed retired hitman, specializing in death by natural causes. He is offered one million dollars to eliminate Livia Lone, Special Agent Smith and Terry Trahan, but turns it down because he is adamant that he does not kill women or children. Instead, he is called on by Carl Dox to assist Livia in taking down the Child's Play ring. At the beginning of the novel, he is isolated and longing for connection - part of the reason he considers the job despite his retirement. He pines after his estranged lover, Delilah, and makes it clear he will never walk away again when they are reunited.

Within the group, Rain is one of the leaders when it comes to planning. Dox even jokes that sometimes Rain has a tendency to micromanage, however they all understand he does it in order to protect the group...
