Chapter 5 Summary

Ronny is released and ordered not to leave the county. There are no other leads, and no progression in the case to write about. The town is quiet and forgotten again. Bill gets no calls from Diane, so he calls and leaves long rambling messages for her. Linda Carter got an exclusive interview with Ronny, and Sam is furious at this. Bill did not get the interview, although he tried to call Ronny and ask him for one. There is nothing else to write about, so Bill goes back to writing about mosquitoes and the summer heat, and continues spending long hours at the pool.
