Chapter 2 Summary

Bill is wrapping up the bake-off story when he hears the ten o'clock news. Linda Carter is reporting on Ronny Lawton. Apparently he was brought in for questioning on the disappearance of his father. The town is buzzing with the news. It's late in the evening, and Sam Perkins calls Bill to chew him out. He is outraged that Bill is not planning on running this story on the cover page, and Bill concedes and says that he will run it. Sam sends over the phone transcripts of Ronny's conversations with the police, and demands that Bill works on a good cover story. Together with Ed Hoskin, Bill locates an old yearbook picture of Ronny Lawton and manipulates it to make Ronny look purely evil.
