Summary

In Chapter 4.1, the family has dinner together on the ship. Charlotte is sad and disturbed to see that Cord is drunk. She thinks about how cruel Winston became after becoming an alcoholic. Charlotte eats quickly and leaves. She then wonders if it would be better to avoid Cord or if she should try to be more of a mother to him in his time of relapse.
