Summary

In Chapter 1, Irina Bazili did not dream she would find happiness and healing while working at Lark House, a residence for seniors with little money. During her interview with director Hans Voigt she told him she had experience working with elderly people from her childhood in Moldova. During a tour of the facilities, Voigt told Irina about two ghosts rumored to inhabit the grounds. They were a woman in pink who died of grief after her son, the second ghost, drowned in the swimming pool. From the time Irina began her work at Lark House she was attracted to Alma Belasco, a woman who lived independently there. Lupita, who was in charge of cleaning, did not think Alma would last long there.
