Elitist Politics

One of the major themes in the novel "The It Girl" by Cecily Von Ziegesar is the theme of elitist politics. Elitist politics is the favoring of particular students over others, because of the wealth and reputations of their families and their contributions to the school. Elitist politics are exemplified through the persons of Easy Walsh and Jenny Humphrey.

Easy's family is inordinately wealthy, and makes generous contributions to the school. As such, he has been in trouble numerous times without being expelled, and teachers and staff turn the other way when Easy does things like smoke on campus and use his cell phone. Easy flaunts the rules and gets away with it time and time again.
