Summary

In Chapter 6, after receiving some mental health care and being transferred from prison to house arrest, Ron was eventually charged with violating house arrest. However, Ron’s mental health had deteriorated further, and he acted consistently disruptive during preliminary court hearings. Meanwhile, Denice Haraway’s body was never found, but Ward and Fontenot were charged with her murder and were scheduled to be put on trial. Ron’s mother died of ovarian cancer in August of 1985. Ron was briefly declared mentally incompetent by a court, but a hospital psychiatrist helped to quickly reverse that decision. Ron was sent back to prison to serve the two remaining years on his sentence for the forged check. Ward and Fontenot were put on trial in September of 1985.
