Prologue, Chapter 1-6 Summary

The prologue of explains that Thomas Covenant was a successful author who was married until he developed leprosy. His wife couldn't stand to be with him after the disease began, so they divorced. Covenant becomes lonely and bitter. Covenant forces himself to go into town, despite the fact that no one wants to be near him, and he is suddenly called to the "Land." In the Land the people treat Covenant like he is a long-awaited hero; his wedding band that he didn't remove after the divorce is a source of great magic. Covenant goes on a journey to help the people save their lands although he believes it all to be a dream. When he wakes up he is back home and his disease is still in his body and there is no proof he was ever anywhere...
