Point of View

The House in the Cerulean see is told through a third person limited narrator that focuses on describing Linus’ thoughts and feelings. This narration style grants the reader an in-depth look into the protagonist’s mind. This is especially useful since Linus naturally has a more reserved, guarded nature. Linus tends to hide his feelings, even from himself. Without this third person narrator, the reader would not know the internal struggle Linus faces when it comes to hiding his emotions, and thus would confuse his timidity for coldness. There are, however, limitations to this narration style as well. For instance, the reader has to rely on Arthur’s words and actions alone to judge his mysterious character. This creates a layer of dramatic irony in the novel, as we know that Arthur is hiding something based off his file at DICOMY.
