Summary

In Chapter 1, Linus Baker visits an orphanage for magical children. He is a caseworker for the Department in Charge of Magical Youth. He is there to file a report on an incident where one child, Daisy, accidentally hurt another, Marcus, as she has a hard time controlling her levitating powers. Linus interviews Daisy. The master of the orphanage is worried and paranoid that Linus will shut the place down. Linus refuses to give her any information about the report and leaves.

Linus is approached by his scary supervisor, Ms. Jenkins, in Chapter 2. She tells him that he has a meeting the next morning with Extremely Upper Management. He has no idea why.
