Chapter 14: The First Sign

On Monday, Lucky experiences Three Signs indicating that it is the perfect day for running away. She tells Beag that they'll run away when she gets home from school. She rides in the back of the bus to school with Lincoln and Miles. Miles pulls out his "Are You My Mother?" book and Lincoln is making a new knot out of yellow twine. The first sign that this day would be perfect for running away is when she spots the road sign that indicates a section of the highway had been adopted by Sammy Desoto, Short Sammy. Lucky thinks to herself that when she grows up, she will adopt a lot of roads.
