Chapters 20-22 Summary

In Chapter 20, Marlowe returns to Mrs. Murdock and explains about the two dead men he has found, but does not mention that he has found Linda Murdock or that he has the Brasher Doubloon. She denies knowing anything about them or that they are connected to her. Marlowe explains that he has been given until noon to proide the police with the name of his client or be arrested. She tells him she expects him to not betray her confidence, and that she expects to pay extra for his silence. He replies that when murder is involved, things change. He cannot afford to get on the wrong side of the police or his career will be over.
