Summary

Chapter Fourteen starts on April 28th, 1956 as Kanta takes Radha to her summer home in Shimla. Lakshmi has two letters; one from Samir saying that Kumar will oversee the adoption, and the other containing divorce letters from Hari. She meets with Indira who says that Latika has recovered and is doing many public events. She then asks about the adoption and Lakshmi admits the child is Radha and Ravi’s. Lakshmi reads over the adoption papers and learns that the contract is null if anything is found unsatisfactory with the baby. If accepted the royal will pay all medical bills and the mother 30,000 rupees. Lakshmi signs the forms and Indira asks if she is related to Hari whose work they have been financing. Lakshmi says no.

Chapter Fifteen opens on May 6th, 1956 where Lakshmi learns that Radha accepted...
