This Part is entitled "THE VIOLENT BEAR IT AWAY" and covers the years 1959 - 1963. The title of the Part is in fact the title of her second novel. She took seven long years to write the first draft. However, once she did have it together she speedily sent it off to friends to read and review critically. When they had helped her by providing constructive criticism, she made a number of changes as part of the revision process. All of her prior work served her in good stead at this point, because she was then able to get it rather rapidly to a publisher who in fact put it out within six months of her turning in the manuscript.
