Chapter 2, The New Friend Summary

When Nobody is about four years old, he begins to ask questions about his situation. Body wants to know why he cannot leave the cemetery, why no other living children live in the cemetery, and what the letters mean on the tombstones. Silas answers Bod's questions as best as he can. To help Bod learn to read, he gives him paper and crayons that he can use to trace the words on the tombstones and then later Silas will help him read them. While doing this one day, Bod runs into a little girl, Scarlett, who has come to the cemetery with her mother because it is a nature reserve.

Scarlett befriends Bod and they begin playing together in the cemetery. However, Scarlett's mother never sees Bod, she and her husband believe that Bod is an imaginary...
