Summary

In Chapter 64, Tierney works on an irrigation system so they girls can have constant access to the clean spring water. As she does so, she hears the scratching noise once again. She catches a glimpse of red on the skeleton of the dead grace year girl, and inspects it to find a chrysanthemum, which she notes symbolizes rebirth. She briefly wonders if perhaps ghosts are real.

Chapter 65 begins Part 4 of the novel, which is labeled as Summer. As the girls stop drinking the well water, their bodies enter into withdrawal. As for Tierney, every day she wakes up with her hair braided differently. She also thinks that the skeleton near the spring looks slightly repositioned every time she sees it. Suspicious, Tierney keeps an eye on Kiersten, but never sees her leave the camp.

In Chapter 66, Tierney continues to hear the scratching noise...
