Summary

In Chapter 28, Tierney still has not claimed her magic. Kiersten tells the biblical story of Eve, who was sinful because she did not acknowledge her magic and thus did not rid of it. To prove magic is real, Kiersten commands a girl named Dena to talk to the animals in the woods. Kiersten makes Dena strip and get on all fours, and as Dena howls, she claims she can hear animals speaking to her.

In Chapter 29, Tierney wakes up to find blood between her legs. Kiersten tells everyone she made that happen. Tierney leaves to wash off when she hears singing. She sees Ami, a small girl, singing a nursery rhyme by the camp’s gates. Through the cracks, Tierney sees a poacher waiting outside. Tierney runs for the well when her visions blurs and she smacks her head against the stone.
