Summary

In Chapter 19, the girls settle down for bed. Tierney suggests they make rain barrels for better drinking water, and Kiersten makes fun of her for knowing things only boys should know. Kiersten accuses Tierney of being a lesbian, which is a crime punished by hanging. Tierney asserts they all need to calm down and stick together.

Kiersten removes her braid and says only girls who have found their magic can do so. She then claims one side of the cabin for veiled girls only, excluding Tierney and Gertrude. To Tierney’s surprise, the girls do not move their beds. Tierney then finds a tassel in her supply pack, and realizes Hans was the one who threw it back.
