Summary

Ernst Koppler visits Gloria at her home. He shares his story, and she is moved by the loss of his child and of what the two of them have in common. Gloria is still reeling from her son, James’s, death. He was short by police after robbing a store, and Gloria blames all of her actions as a mother on the reason why James felt the need to rob places. She feels that if she had more money all of the problems leading to James’s death could have been prevented. . Koppler asks where Pilgrim is, and Gloria knows he wants to go there to kill her. She tells him anyway because she thinks Mr. Koppler deserves whatever justice he wants with the person who killed his daughter.
