Summary

In the prologue, it was 2006, and Clemantine was 18 when she and her sister, Claire, were invited onto the Oprah show. While Claire lived in public housing with her three children, Clemantine had been living in Kenilworth, "a fancy suburb," with the Thomas family (1). The Oprah segment was "a two-part series" (2). In the first part, Oprah talked to Elie Wiesel. The second part featured 50 high schoolers who had participated in Oprah's essay contest "about Wiesel's book Night" (2).
