The Wholehearted List

The Wholehearted List is a list of qualities that appeared and emerged to Brown as she analyzed the patterns and recurring themes that make up Wholeheartedness. The initial list had two columns, one labelled "Do" and the other labelled "Don't" (x). The Don't list had words like "perfection, numbing, certainty, exhaustion, self-sufficiency, being cool, fitting in, judgment, and scarcity" (x). The Do list had words like "worthiness, rest, play, trust, faith, intuition, hope, authenticity, love, belonging, gratitude, and creativity" (x). The elements on the Do list would eventually make up the tenets and guideposts of Wholehearted Living and they form the key messages of The Gifts of Imperfection.
