Summary

In the morning, Dante takes the three to meet Mateu. After Percy gives him a surprise kiss on the cheek, Monty leaves and steals potatoes to get taken to prison. When he winks at the police, the man hits him, triggering memories of Monty’s father. At the prison, he finds Mateu. Monty explains what happened with Borbon. Mateu feels Helena betrayed her mother, but admits he should not have kept her in the tomb. He tells Monty her heart has to be eaten to work, and Monty says they want to go to Venice. Mateu says the key gives the holder the power to choose who dies for others. But Mateu remembers time with his children and says Helena was terrified of losing her parents.
