Point of View

The Flood Girls delves equally into the Points of View of Rachel, Laverna, and Jake. Each of the novel’s chapters focuses on only one of these three characters’ Points of View; for example, if a chapter begins in Jake’s perspective, it does not switch to Laverna or Rachel’s perspective. Chapters are shuffled through perspective equally; the novel begins in Jake’s point of view, followed by Rachel’s, and finally Laverna’s, and repeats in this pattern until Jake’s death.

Notably, after Jake’s death, Rachel and Laverna share the primary Points of View of the final chapters. The pattern is broken, too; Rachel is the focus of the first chapter following Jake’s death, then Laverna, and the final two chapters are both told from Rachel’s Point of View.
