Chapters 48-51 Summary

Chapter 48

Galad joins the party as they move into Samara. They find trouble almost at once and must fight their way through a mob incensed by the teaching of the Prophet. They arrive at the docks, where Captain Agni Neres is holding his boat for them. A crowd of refugees, mostly women and children, wait on the docks, hoping for passage out of the burning town. Elayne forces the captain to dump his smuggling cargo to allow the refugees aboard along with her party. Galad parts with the company, after first pulling Elayne aside to tell her to stay away from Rand Al'Thor, who he says brings death wherever he goes.

Elayne and Nynaeve move among the refugees, healing and handing out coins. Three of the refugees stand out, Nicola, a young woman whose fiancé was killed in the fighting, Marigan, an older woman...
