Chapters 44-47 Summary

Chapter 44

Rand is exhausted from channeling lightning into the battle below. Suddenly, return lightning strikes through the line of Maidens below him and brings down the platform. Rand, Aviendha, and Egwene are thrown clear, but many Maidens are killed. Rand recognizes the work of Sammael. Aviendha has to stop him from tearing off after the Forsaken, as he is almost too weak to stand.

Couladin and a force of Shaido are moving east away from the wall and the thrust of the battle. Mat sets an ambush for them and kills Couladin in combat.

Rand rides back into his camp. Several of the chiefs who were holding out on supporting him until he could prove that he, not Couladin, was the true Car'a'carn, have arrived to pledge their support. Rand, who has been holding saidin all day, releases the power, and...
