Sitting on the bench in the square, don Juan tells the narrator that he must now shift his assemblage point from heightened awareness. In a few days, he will meet don Juan and don Genaro on a mountain top and jump from the mountain into an abyss, shifting his assemblage point from normal awareness to escape death by entering a different great band of emanations. This will be the last of don Juan's teachings. The narrator shifts his assemblage point from heightened awareness, and he finds himself walking next to don Juan through a deserted plain with yellow dunes of sulfur. When he looks at don Juan, he sees a ball of luminosity. The allies crowd the narrator, annoying him, but move back as if he chastises them. He sees no inner glow...
