The Old Victorian House

The old Victorian house is the new home of the Grace children and their mother Helen Grace. It is the main setting for the book. The house is old with holes in upper floors and walls and badly in repair. It also contains a hidden library and other secret corners where faeries can hide.

The Dumbwaiter

The dumbwaiter is a string-pulley operated lift from the kitchen to the second floor. Jared is pulled up in the dumbwaiter by his brother and sister and finds the hidden library upstairs.

The Library

The library is a room that is accessed through the dumbwaiter. When Jared gets there, the library seems to have no door. There he finds the note from the late Arthur Spiderwick, and evidence of the existence of an unknown creature.
