Summary

In Chapter 21, Heist has departed to fetch a more agile vehicle, and he has left Phoebe as a lookout on the mountain. Phoebe spends time with a young woman named Lorrie who lives on the mountain and believes in various conspiracy theories such a government chemical contrails. Lorrie says that she is a member of the Rabbits, and Heist has assured Phoebe that while the Bears are dangerous, the Rabbits are not. Lorrie and Phoebe walk to the Rabbits’ central settlement. Anita, one of the leaders, allows Phoebe to sleep in a Rabbit compound called the Neptune Lodge. In Chapter 22, Heist arrives at the Rabbit settlement in a Jeep in order to give Phoebe a ride back to Los Angeles.
