Chapter 5 Summary

Hazel and Augustus don't speak for a week. Hazel goes on with her life, even meeting with Kaitlyn and her new boyfriend for a coffee one day. Augustus finally calls Hazel, but she has to return his call because she's eating dinner. He admits to wanting to call her every minute, but that he was waiting until he had a coherent thought about An Imperial Affliction.

Augustus tells Hazel that he found the author's assistant. He says he emailed her, she passed it onto the author, Peter Van Houten, and that the author responded. Peter says he is not and does not plan to continue writing. This means they still won't find out what happened to the characters in the book.
