Summary

The narrative shifts back to 1977, when Camille and Caleb were not yet married. Camille originally met Caleb when she was an art student of his. Caleb is about ten years older than Camille. In 1977, they had been dating for several years, and they executed an art piece together where they assumed fake identities and underwent marriage ceremonies at over 30 chapels around the country. Camille then told Caleb that she was pregnant, and they decided to marry for real. They were excited to have a child, but they also worried that parental responsibilities would hamper their artistic pursuits. Later, when Annie was about a year old, Caleb and Camille took her to meet Santa Claus at a local mall.
