Summary

Tuor is torn between his respect for Turgon and his love for his family. However, he resolves to save anyone from Gondolin he can. The arrival of more drakes forces the survivors to run. He finds Idril at the Place of Wedding, but Idril sees the corrupted palace and her father, Turgon, distracting the orcs and balrogs. She despairs as fire consumes the palace and her father is killed, realizing that his stubbornness - choosing to stay in Gondolin and not fight for Ulmo - was Turgon’s downfall. The group rushes through the city, recruiting anyone he can. Voronwë tells Tuor that Idril send some guards down the passageway with their son as she fought any who attacked until Voronwë forced her to hide.
